About the Tip Calculator

Dinner is done and the bill has arrived — this tip calculator gets everyone paid up fast, with no awkward napkin math. Type the bill amount, adjust the tip percentage (15% is preset, but any value works), and set how many people are splitting. You instantly see the tip amount, the grand total, and exactly what each person owes, all rounded to the cent.

It is built for phones, so it works right at the table without downloading an app or creating an account. Use it for restaurants, bars, food delivery, taxis, hair salons or any tipped service. The math happens entirely on your device, and because results update as you type, you can nudge the percentage up or down and watch the per-person share follow.

Frequently asked questions

How is a tip calculated?

Multiply the bill by the tip percentage divided by 100: a 15% tip on a 60.00 bill is 60 × 0.15 = 9.00, making the total 69.00. This calculator does that instantly and also divides the total by the number of people so nobody has to do mental math.

How much should I tip at a restaurant?

In the United States, 15–20% is customary for table service, with 18–20% common for good service. Counter service is often 0–10%. Many other countries tip less or include service in the bill, so check local custom. The percentage field accepts any value you choose.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Etiquette guides generally say tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is perfectly acceptable, though many people simply tip on the final total for simplicity. The difference is small — on a bill with 8% tax, it changes a 20% tip by less than 2% of the subtotal. Enter whichever amount you prefer.

How does the bill splitting work?

The calculator adds the tip to the bill, then divides that total evenly by the number of people, rounding to the cent. If your group wants to split unevenly — say one person had the expensive steak — run the calculation separately on each person's share instead.

Can I use this for delivery, taxis or haircuts?

Absolutely. The math is identical for any tipped service: food delivery, rideshares, salons, movers or hotel staff. Just enter the charge and pick an appropriate percentage — commonly 10–20% depending on the service — and set people to 1 if you are paying alone.
